Welcome to the London Project dining room before and after room tour. As I stated in my first tours (the kitchen + living room), I named this the London project because this home was built by a family with the last name London back in the 1980’s. They must have loved entertain because it has a VERY open floor plan. What we love the most is the main living areas are huge and there are no two same houses around here.
Below is what the room looked like when I moved in. The majority of the house walls were gold, burgundy, and green – which is common in the south, I talk about it below.
The Dining Room Before
The Dining Room After

Back in the day – decorating using the colors green, burgundy (or red) and gold was the thing. It was nearly in everyone’s house I visited back then – everyone but my grand parents. They hated it just as much as I did, and I know because I asked them when I was around 16 years old.
Before you continue reading, please don’t be offended if you’re still in love with that color combination. I’m not saying that there’s anything wrong with it, I’m saying it’s just not my thing.
Don’t feel stupid if you don’t like what everyone else pretends to like.
One day I had an intense conversation with a friend about her moms new furniture. She was upset because I didn’t really care for it – that made me feel some kind of way. A few years later she revealed to me that she never really liked it either. It was green with gold flakes, and was made of some sort of faux velvet material that was very popular in the 90’s.
I remember telling my grandma Louise about the conversation, and how the popular combination of colors (green gold and burgundy) just made me feel bad. I guess I didn’t understand how colors impacted our mood back then like I do now. My grandma said,”Don’t feel stupid if you don’t like what everyone else pretends to like”. From that day forward I made it one of the rules I live by.
As stated in the story about our living room, when I moved here those three colors were everywhere, and I couldn’t wait to get rid of them. Now this room is so pleasant to eat and work in, as a matter of fact, it may be one of the most used rooms in our house. I actually find myself spending long hours here.
P.S. We’ve had these items for over 3 years. When I went to source them for you they were no longer available so I took the time to find similar items for you to check out below.
Over to you, what colors do you like to use in your home and how do you feel they affect your vibe? Also what’s one thing you learned from your grandma that you still live by today? Let us know in the comment section below.
