Welcome to the London Project kitchen tour. This is our personal home that we started updating back in June 2015. I took off work this past summer to focus on the house and I had a lot of fun. Over the next few months I will release tours of other parts of the project so make sure you’re a subscriber if you’d like them to hit your inbox first.
OK – let’s move on. I named this the Baker project because this home was built by a family with the last name London back in the 1980’s. They must have loved entertain because it has a VERY open floor plan. What I love the most is there is not one house like it in the neighborhood.
Initially we were going to replace the cabinets which was going to cost us about $12,000. Then we decided to see how painting them would hold up first. These are solid oak cabinets and are in terrific shape. We hired Benae Ross, a faux finish artist to come in and stain the cabinets. The quality of her work is great and I can see it lasting for many years to come.
I’m not sure of which product Benae used, so I can’t help you with that one. But I think it’s a ‘paint stain’ and will present you with the same results and save you a ton of cash.

Mark and I are putting ♥ LOTS OF LOVE ♥ into this house to make it our home, and I’ve enjoyed every wall kicking moment (always buy samples of paint first). He has been so gracious to let me do most of the selections since I am the professional… hehehe, but he loves everything we’ve agreed on so far.

The custom window valance was us; we specialize in custom window coverings, bedding, long shower curtains and pillows.
The custom island was built by Freddie Carr over at CAMP CREEK FURNISHINGS. We saw Mr. Carr post his work in a local Facebook group and we instantly knew he was the one to build it for us. The paint color on the base is by BEHR and it’s called Weathered Moss (N380-3U). He delivered it himself, driving over 2 hours to get it to us; such great service!
Below, I’ve added links and pics of the products we ordered to make this room beautiful, just in case you wanted to make them your own. Be sure to post your pics on our facebook timeline and let us see how your room turned out using these items. They shipped out pretty fast.
This page will be updated periodically until we finish the project. We still have to choose the stone countertops (we are torn between granite, quartz or marble), the backsplash, stain the crown molding and purchase new art for the small wall near the pantry.
What are your favorite natural stones to use for a kitchen countertop? Let us know in the comment section below.
